CRISLETTER#1 | NOV 2025 - Shows, workshops, first times

Hi there,
Welcome to my first Crisletter.
It is the digital space where I share updates on my artistic journey, specifically the performances I am in, the performances I watch, and the workshops I give and take. My intention is to send Crisletters on a (bi)monthly basis, and to share more through these letters, and less and less on social media.
I’m excited to share these updates with you. In one way or another, you have been, or perhaps will be, part of my artistic journey.
I like to mention that this Crisletter is written without AI. This means there might be some spelling mikstakes, spacing issues and, in general, my English might not be perfect always. Also there might be some jokes here and there, mostly here thought, in this paragraph. I hope you appreciate this human approach.
I also hope you enjoy the further reading, scrolling, clicking around, checking clips and replying (yes, you can reply!).
TWO ARTISTIC PROJECTS
Most of the things mentioned in this letter are connected to two artistic projects I am busy with:
Pleaser, a show about People Pleasing, through which I am not only exploring the theme itself but also deepening my research in clowning, dancing, and audience participation. I have been performing several works in progress, in different forms and for different audiences, from 5-minute spots at alternative comedy nights to 45-minute runs at circus festivals. It’s the first time I’ve approached creation in this lean way, spreading it over several months, alternating between sharing the work with audiences and reflecting/developing in the studio. This process is also helping me grow a lot both artistically and professionally. Pleaser will premiere in the first half of 2026. More info to come.
Heavy Meta, a show exploring the silliness at the limits of logic, language and cognition, while attempting to grasp the sacredness that might emerge in that space. It will be my first hour of standup-ish comedy, or as I call it, “x-comedy”. It is also my first show that does not involve dancing. The process is similar to that of Pleaser, I am writing and testing material often in different comedy contexts, in a lean way. The premiere will be somewhere in 2026.
SHOWS/SPOTS I AM IN - NOVEMBER 2025

6 November - Standup comedy spot, Oh my word comedy at Bijbarba, Amsterdam
A cozy comedy show where 8 comedians and an MC (which is also a comedian, so 9 comedians) share the stage, not at the same time.

11 November - Pleaser (work‑in‑progress), Theatre De Landing, Amstelveen
An evening where Circunstruction(by Circusstad) makers, Leire Froufe, Samuel Rhyner and myself, will show a work in progress of their show.

14 November - Pleaser (work‑in‑progress), Maaspodium, Rotterdam
More or less the same as November 14th, but in Rotterdam.

19 & 26 November - Stand-up Comedy Open Mic, Club Haug, Rotterdam
I will be trying new jokes and it will be fun.
SHOWS I AM PLANNING TO WATCH - NOVEMBER 2025
5 November - Befrdfgth by Dr. Brown, The Amsterdam Storytelling Festival at Podium Mozaik, Amsterdam
Took an intensive 5-days clown workshop by Dr.Brown last year that deeply impacted my artistic practice. Finally I can get to see his show and you should too! INFO & TICKETS →
6 November - Open Studio Samuel Rhyner, Korzo, The Hague
Samuel, fellow Circunstruction maker, will show the work in progress of “The Idle Hour”, which features a giant hamster wheel. INFO & TICKETS →
7 November - The visitor // A STORK SHOW by Phoebe Perry, The Amsterdam Storytelling Festival at Podium Mozaik, Amsterdam
Curious to check Phoebe’s new solo which is premiering during the Amsterdam Storytelling festival. “Edie, a stork, is late for her last mating season to fulfil her stork duties, but the village she left no longer resembles the one she left behind”. INFO & TICKETS →
8 November - Dr. Brown Beturn, The Amsterdam Storytelling Festival at Podium Mozaik, Amsterdam
I will also see his second show “The show is an homage to the time the artist spent caring for his father who had been suffering from Dementia. Surreal, ridiculous, silly, absurd”. INFO & TICKETS →9 November - Like a Clown by Goos en Helena, Arnhem
Also very much looking forward to this one. “This humorous show deconstructs the mythical image of the clown and explores the many meanings that the profession of clowning has acquired over time.” I am aware I am into clowning. INFO & TICKETS →
WORKSHOPS - NOVEMBER 2025
22 November, 16:00-17:30 - Dance-Comedy Workshop, Call & Response, Utrecht
I will teach a workshop exploring the relationship between dance, comedy, improvisation and everyday gestures. Afterwards there will be an multidisciplinary improvisation jam. INFO & TICKETS →

SHOWS/SPOTS I WAS IN - OCTOBER 2025
2 October – The Odd Ones, Jackson Lane, London
I love playing this show very much. This time there some kids in the audience, who also stayed for the Q&A afterwards. And a beautiful article was written about it. Also my first(ish) time in London.

5 October - Stand-up Comedy Spot / Open Mic, G&B Comedy at Royal George, London
Did my first Mic in London during a 3hours show with a 16 comic line-up. Someone complimented the fact that I speak good English. But they also laughed.
10 October - Pleaser (work-in-progress), ADM Festival, Amsterdam
I tried a new beginning for Pleaser and tested some new audience interaction moments. The crowd was great, the alcohol level in some audiences members was just at the sweet spot to have an active crowd, but not too active.

11 October - Pleaser (dance solo ), Volkstheater Rotterdam, Rotterdam
Took this opportunity to bring the focus back on the dance that I was losing a little bit by overly focussing on comedy and audience participation. I ended up doing an 18min dance solo for mostly young children, who seemed to have enjoyed it.
13 October - Stand-up Comedy Spot, Comedy Talent Award Voorronde, Kargadoor, Utrecht
My first standup comedy set in Dutch. Got some laughs and even made my first improvised joke in Dutch.

18 October - Clown Spot, Mezrab ALT Comedy Night, Amsterdam
My first time (so many first times this month) doing a silent act with a clown nose. Also used it as an opportunity to further refine the beginning of Pleaser. The Mezrab crowd never disappoints.
22 October - Pleaser (work-in-progress + Feedback Session), Hennekijnstraat Studio, Rotterdam
Together with Circunstruction, I organized a feedback session in my studio led by dramaturg Marijn van der Jagt. After showing the work in progress Marijn helped participants put words to what they saw, giving me valuable inputs to further develop the show.
NO CLIP SO NO LINK

24 October - Stand-up Comedy Spot / Open Mic, Three Sisters, The Hague
First time (but not first time writing “first time” in this letter) doing standup comedy with a red nose. Interesting experience, not sure if I will do it again.
25 October - Clown Spot, Katan, Ghent
Used the opportunity to play a 15 min extract from Pleaser, showing a new part of the new beginning and a new part of the new ending together for a great crowd in Gent.

SHOWS I WATCHED - OCTOBER 2025

3 October - Lucy Pearman: Lunartic, Soho Theatre, London
A great show by Lucy Pearman, and my first time at Soho theater (also the first time in this letter not making a joke about first times, while making it). Lucy is very silly and gave me some insights on what to do when the person you pick is not the right fit for a specific task for your show. Also she tickled someone in the audience, and it was incredibly fun to watch.

4 October - The Best in Stand-Up, Comedy Store, London
My first time watching a show at the Comedy Store. I was so curious to have a look at this iconic club that I did not take the recommendation to watch shows at other better and less commercial places. Nevertheless I had a nice experience, 4 comics, one of which I did not understand a word of his Scottish accent. The MC Ian Coppinger was an absolute legend and extremely funny.

18 October - Red Bastard, Mezrab ALT Comedy Night, Amsterdam
My first time watching a Bouffon show. Fascinating to see how a person is able to hold a room with 200 people for 90 minutes while walking around dressed like a red something, and among other things challenging people about their dreams and threatening to touch them with a licked finger. The fact that the same day I had a 6-hour Bouffon workshop with him made it extra-interesting as I could directly see on stage what we explored during the day, like the urge of the Bouffon to seek his own pleasure.
WORKSHOPS & TRAININGS - OCTOBER 2025

18/19 October - Bouffon 1: Mocking, Flocking by Eric David (Red Bastard), Utrecht
After having taken an artistically life-changing but low-key traumatising clown workshop last year, it was super interesting to explore the bouffon, where definitely less emotional suffering was involved ”The World laughs at the Clown, but the Bouffons laugh at the World!” What we explored: Ensemble play & Complicity, Chorus work, Finding the fun in mocking, Non-linear play.
14 October - Deep Democracy Training by Ann Cassano
I followed a try-out one on one training on deep democracy, a method that combines body-sentient movement, jungian psychology and facilitation. The idea is that we are not one person, but we contain a multitude of selves. These are brought out through archetypes by sound, movement, drawings.
A Final Note
THANKS FOR READING UNTIL HERE!
I am aware this Crisletter is quite long, perhaps longer than your average newsletter. I am also aware that writing this paragraph makes it even longer. I wanted to thank you for taking the time, I hope it was pleasant to read or skim through.
As I am experimenting with this, let me know if you have anything to share about what you enjoyed or what you would like to see different. Also feel free to reach out if you wish to connect about something specific.
Until next time,

(Cri is short for Cristian and Cris)
